The wait is almost over for Gossip Girl fans!
The show returns to the CW March 8 (9 p.m. EST) — and PEOPLE has an exclusive look from the set of the first new episode in weeks.
Executive producer Stephanie Savage reveals the story behind these two revealing photos (but beware of spoilers!):
“We last saw Nate sleeping on a chair in Serena’s hospital room. Gossip Girl called Serena “Sleeping Beauty” and referred to Nate as her “prince.” Now we get to see this fairy tale for real — Serena and Nate, the golden couple, finally together. It was the reveal of S and N’s fateful coupling that night at the Shepherd wedding that set in motion the dynamics of our entire series, so it’s a big deal to finally have these two pair up. Blake [Lively] and Chace [Crawford] have amazing on-screen chemistry. Their scenes are some of the most fun and sexy we have ever shot.”

“[Our previous episode] “The DeBarted” left audiences wondering, “Who was the mystery woman Chuck saw at Bart’s grave?” Chuck wants to know too, and he spends [our new episode] “The Hurt Locket” tracking her down. Here we are shooting on location in the lobby of the famed Algonquin Hotel, where Chuck confronts our mystery lady (Mulholland Drive’s Laura Harring) and demands the truth about her association with Bart, and any information she might know about Chuck’s mother. This episode kicks off a big emotional Chuck story that brings him and Blair closer than ever. Ed [Westwick] and Leighton [Meester] are at the top of their game in this arc.”

Settle Confirms Wife Split
GOSSIP GIRL star MATTHEW SETTLE has confirmed he’s split from his wife – calling the break-up a “tragedy”.
The actor, 40, wed model Naama Nativ in 2006 and the couple welcomed its first child together, daughter Aven, last March (09).
Settle sparked speculation he is no longer with Nativ after he was spotted without his wedding ring during New York Fashion Week last week (ends14Feb10).
The star has now spoken out to confirm he is single, admitting he is finding it difficult adjusting to unmarried life.
He tells OK! magazine, “I’m not adjusted yet. I’m still working on that, but it’s always a tragedy when things happen, and that’s all I can say.”

This just in: As my handy Bubble Show Scorecard correctly predicted, The CW has extended early full-season renewals to Supernatural, Gossip Girl, 90210, The Vampire Diaries, and America’s Next Top Model.
There’s no word on the fate of CW bubble shows Smallville, One Tree Hill, Life Unexpected, and Melrose Place. Of the four, Smallville and One Tree Hill stand the best chance of returning, although I’m told there are big budgetary issues that need to be resolved first.
Last month, CW president Dawn Ostroff told me she was feeling optimistic about Smallville’s renewal chances. “I’m really pleased with the show,” she said. “Creatively, I think they’ve done a great job. And the ratings are [strong] on Friday night. I have to commend [the producers]… It’s not easy in season 9 to keep a show fresh. And you know what I think? The fans have really liked the show this season. I don’t know which way we’ll go, but if you would’ve asked me [earlier whether it would end this season] I would’ve said, ‘Oh, probably.’ But I can’t say that now.”
