Chace Crawford has signed to co-star in upcoming indie film Peace, Love, and Understanding.
The Gossip Girl star joins a cast that includes Jane Fonda and Catherine Keener.
Director Bruce Beresford’s multi-generational drama centres on a conservative lawyer named Diane (Keener) who takes her family to live with their hippie grandmother (Fonda) in Woodstock.
Crawford will play war-protesting butcher who flirts with Diane’s daughter, says The Hollywood Reporter.
Production is expected to begin in July in New York’s Hudson River Valley.
Chace Crawford’s recent arrest for alleged possession of marijuana has reportedly been sent to the district attorney.
The Gossip Girl star was taken into custody in his native Texas last week after authorities allegedly found an unlit joint in a car that he was travelling in with a friend.
He later posted bond and was released.
According to E! Online, the police have now said that the “case has been referred to prosecutors, and they will determine whether they have enough evidence to pursue charges against him”.
Crawford – who plays Nate Archibald in the drama – has yet to comment.

Chace Crawford was arrested early Friday morning for possession of marijuana, according to a police report.
The 24-year-old Gossip Girl star was arrested in a pub parking lot in Plano, Texas, after police discovered one marijuana joint in the car he was in. The charge is a misdemeanor, for having two ounces or less of marijuana.
Calls for comment have not been returned.
On Friday, Crawford was spotted having lunch with two people at Naan Sushi, a restaurant located in the same shopping center where he was arrested, according to a source.
“He was cool,” the source tells PEOPLE. “He was on the phone the whole time. [The group] seemed normal. None of them seemed like they were mad or anything.”
Ed Westwick reportedly ended his relationship with Jessica Szohr after learning she was seeing other guys behind his back.
Ed Westwick is “devastated” after learning his girlfriend was allegedly dating other guys behind his back.
The ‘Gossip Girl’ hunk has ended his two-year relationship with co-star Jessica Szohr after discovering she was seeing other guys, including a close friend of the actor.
A source said: “Ed discovered that not only was Jessica seeing a close friend of his – he was told about it personally, by the guy – but that she was also seeing a few other men.”
Jessica, 25, reportedly turned to other guys for attention whenever Ed – who has recently been in Germany filming new movie ‘Chalet Girl’ – wasn’t out with her.
The source added to the New York Daily News newspaper: “When Ed wasn’t out with her for the night, she’d flirt heavily with guys. It was only a matter of time before it got back to Ed.”
News of the couple’s split has come as a shock to many, including Ed’s close friend and co-star Chace Crawford.
The insider said: “Chace Crawford is good friends with both of them and had no idea. He thought they were the perfect couple.”
Although Jessica has denied the claims, friends insist she is trying to put on a brave face as is hopeful her relationship can be salvaged.
One pal said: “Jessica is hoping she can convince Ed to get back together. She keeps denying the rumours that they broke up, because she doesn’t even want to believe it’s true. She’s really chasing him.”
However, it seems she will have to try hard to win back Ed.
The source added: “He wants nothing to do with her right now.”

‘Gossip Girl’ scheduling conflicts are reportedly to blame.
After replacing Zac Efron in the “Footloose” remake, Chace Crawford has announced he will no longer be filling Kevin Bacon’s dancing shoes. His rep confirmed that the “Gossip Girl” star has decided not to move forward with the project.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the studio may now go on a nationwide hunt for an unknown to play the part.
Sources say Crawford’s “Gossip Girl” schedule got in the way of the movie’s shooting schedule. The show is scheduled to start production for its next season this July, just when Paramount had wanted to start filming the movie. While the film still lacks a leading man, “Dancing With the Stars” pro Julianne Hough is still expected to play the film’s female lead, which was played by Lori Singer in the original flick.
Leading men issues haven’t been the shakeups plaguing the film. “High School Musical” director Kenny Ortega was set to helm the musical, but dropped out last year. There have been screenplay problems too: A version penned by Susannah Grant, who wrote “Erin Brockovich,” was later replaced by one written by “Hustle & Flow” director Craig Brewer. EW reports that the studio would also like Brewer to direct, but previous commitments may make that impossible.
Initially, Crawford seemed excited by the prospect of starring in “Footloose,” telling MTV News last year that he hoped he had the skills to pay the bills.
“I hope so, right? I got the part,” Crawford said. “I hope they know I can dance. I don’t know. It’s a fun script, and actually stepping out of my shell and doing the dancing thing is probably the most exciting part.”
