Kelly Brook got a nice fright during the production of the horror film “Piranha 3D,” but it had to do with the fuzz, not fanged fish. Brook tells us that during a break in filming, she and co-star Jessica Szohr decided to drive from the film’s set in Lake Havasu, Ariz., to Las Vegas for a little R&R, but ended up lost late at night at the Hoover Dam.

“The next thing I know, there are three police cars following us,” says the British Brook. “In England, the natural reaction is to get out of the car and ask for directions, which is what I did,” she explains. Unfortunately, she says, this prompted the cops to jump out of their squad cars with weapons drawn.

Brook, who bares all in the film, which opens Friday, and on the pages of this month’s Playboy, says: “Next thing you know, we have got our hands on the bonnet [hood] of the car and we’re trying to assure [the police] we’re just actresses on our way to Vegas.

“To have a gun pulled on you and then be asked for your autograph in the space of a minute is just a bizarre turn of events.” Yes, but we bet those cops went home happy.

Jessica Szohr was one of those people who, because of her less than amazing “Gossip Girl” character, wasn’t held in a high esteem by PopWrap. But then we met and it’s been adoration ever since. In fact, just as Vanessa had previously warped our opinion of Jessica, meeting the bubbly 25-year-old changed the way we viewed V. Suddenly her clothes weren’t as garish, her lines weren’t as cheesy and her behavior wasn’t as annoying.

This weekend Jessica trades Fendi for fish as one of the nubile spring break-ers “Piranha 3D’s” pack of carnivorous swimmers sets their sites on. But Jessica snagged the main female role of Kelly, so unlike the countless other scantily clad bimbos just itching to take their tops off, Jessica will probably live to see the end credits — and potentially a sequel.

Which may or may not be music to Jessica’s ears since she’s not a big fan of water in the first place. So why would someone who doesn’t care for H2O spend two months submerged in it? Why don’t I let her tell you.

PopWrap: What were your first thoughts when a script landed on your desk with the title “Piranha 3D?”
Jessica Szohr: At first I was like, “Oh ‘Piranha,’ they did it years ago,” but then they started telling me who else was attached and I watched some of the director’s other movies — his vision was very cool. Also, Kelly is a very different character than Vanessa, who I’ve been playing for three years now, so with all of those things I thought, “why not – let’s go have fun, get scared, be in the water and ride on a boat for two months.” [laughs]

Blake Lively appears to be right at home on “Green Lantern” movie posters, and she’s even looking ahead to her character’s likely fall toward villainy. She had a burning desire to be cast in a superhero film, though, and even though she wanted to be a part of such a project, she admitted that “Green Lantern” wasn’t first on her list of priorities.

“‘Green Lantern’ wasn’t,” Lively told MTV News, “I didn’t know about ‘Green Lantern.’ That’s what’s so exciting about it. I was just saying, you know, to get to introduce it to a young generation is a cool thing.”

Lively seemed most interested in providing a bridge between generations and seeing what it would be like to present the title hero to a new audience, including her own family members.

“My nephews, when I brought them to set, I had them put on the ring, and they were like, ‘Oh, this is cool,’ and I thought, ‘In a year from now you’re gonna be so happy that I made you take this picture,’” she explained.

And in the end, “Green Lantern” met those expectations and became the job she wanted it to be.

“Doing a superhero picture is something that just seems like so much fun, and it really was,” the actress said.

Call it the battle of the blondes: Sources confirm a report in The Hollywood Reporter today that Scarlett Johansson and Blake Lively are the frontrunners to star in Alfonso Cuaron’s next project Gravity opposite Robert Downey Jr. Both women have tested for the role of an astronaut lost in space, fighting her way back to Earth. Neither Johansson nor Lively have yet to receive an offer, however.

Sources say that Lively auditioned for the role over a month ago along with 11 other women. Johansson only read for the part last week.

While Johannson is a bigger star internationally, Warner Bros. has long been a fan of cultivating young talent that it had a hand in discovering, which definitely describes Lively. She co-stars in the studio’s upcoming flick The Town as well as Green Lantern, in which she plays Ryan Reynolds’ love interest. Warner Bros. TV is also responsible for Gossip Girl, which co-stars Lively, on the CW.

It’s not lost on anyone that Reynolds is Johansson’s husband. Depending on the outcome of the Cuaron project, the Green Lantern premiere could be one awkward affair. Warner Bros. declined to comment.

Blake Lively claims everyone in Hollywood she admires is male because there are much better opportunities for the opposite sex.

Blake Lively thinks men are given better opportunities than women in the film industry.

The ‘Green Lantern’ actress – who shot to fame after starring in ‘The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants’ at the age of 16 – has a long list of actors she looks up to, but insists she doesn’t envy anyone else’s career.

When asked whose career she admires, Blake replied: “People always ask me that and I always answer with men. Which is not to say that there aren’t incredible women in this business, but I feel like men are still given much better opportunities.

“I feel like there are so many people I admire for so many reasons that I can’t look at one person’s life and say, ‘I want that life.’ I want to make my own history.

“I look at anything in life like as long as you do what you believe in, then it’s going to work out. Because even if other people don’t like what you’re doing, you’re happy because you did what you believed in.”

The blonde beauty also revealed she didn’t have her heart set on an acting career from a young age.

She added to Interview magazine: “I never really thought about acting as a child. It wasn’t like, ‘This is the career that I want to pursue’. So when I first started acting, I was more concerned with just being on a set and all of the woes of that, and I didn’t really know it or understand it as a craft yet.”

Though she plays a poised, confident Upper East Sider on “Gossip Girl,” it’s hard to imagine that Blake Lively is shy. But according to the actress, she has a hard time opening up to others.

“I’m actually a very shy person – that’s a big secret, so don’t tell,” Lively tells actor Ben Affleck in the September issue of Interview magazine. “But being in [acting] classes pushed me to break out of that a little bit. It’s like nature versus nurture: I’m naturally very shy, but I was brought up in a way where I had to get up and get out of that.”

Lively, 23, had to force herself out of her comfort zone when she began working on the upcoming thriller “The Town.” On her very first day of work, the actress says she had to film a sex scene with Affleck, who also stars in and directed the film.

The blond beauty also takes her acting skills out onto the red carpet, where she says she’s not as comfortable as she may appear.

“With acting, I think half of it is just acting confident,” she tells the mag. “We stand on these red carpets and pose in these dresses, but we’re all only so confident. It doesn’t mean we think we’re great looking or anything. It’s all a facade.”

Coming from a family of actors, Lively credits her upbringing for the maturity she now encompasses.

“I have a big, close, loving family, and they’re all from the South, but because so many of them are actors, everyone was very normal about it,” she explains. “It was just like any job to them. They always came home and talked about it around the dinner table the way any family talks about work, but it wasn’t anything special.”

In fact, the actress jokes that her leap into Hollywood is due to everyday perks found around the movie set.

“I don’t feel like I ever had any sort of Hollywood upbringing,” she says. “I got to travel and visit my family on set. I got to eat craft service. I actually think that was the reason I got into acting: the free food. I literally remember on my first job being like, ‘Yes! I get to have craft service every day!’”

The movie “Twelve” and the CW’s “Gossip Girl” have a lot in common. They both take place in New York City. Both are about rich kids doing bad things. And Chace Crawford happens to star in them. Crawford, however, is quick to point out that he has little in common with neither drug dealer White Mike nor playboy Nate.

“Neither, I guess. I’m from Texas, it’s a different story,” he laughed to MTV news at the “Twelve” premiere last week about comparisons with his characters.

“I had to learn the cadence of the city and the way they operate things,” Crawford explained. “Nate’s not up to much [next season], I guess there’s several other girls coming along, but … it’s good to kind of do something different and switch up and have a nice dichotomy,” he added about his role in “Twelve.”

While the gritty drama, in theaters now, offered him the chance to portray an edgier side, Crawford admitted that the shooting location also proved ideal, as did the chance to work with director Joel Schumacher.

“I wanted to work with Joel, first of all,” he said. “We had a big long meeting about it and it was of high interest for me to work with him. And it was good; it was a good departure from ‘Gossip Girl.’ It worked out well because I’m in the city.”

Plus, Crawford also got to act alongside rapper 50 Cent.

“I thought he might have some sort of persona he was trying to project, but he’s easygoing,” Crawford said of his co-star. “He’s not trying to create some character. He wants to be a serious actor. I respect it. He was getting his tattoos lasered off while we were shooting and we had some good talks. I mean, he’s cool. He lives in Connecticut and he’s a super nice guy. Very intellectual.”
